Military Road ELC School Opening Advisory Group: Meeting #2

To support the school opening and planning for Military Road Early Learning Center, the MRELC School Opening Advisory Group was created earlier this spring. This group consists of local community members, representatives from DCPS schools near Military Road ELC, and broader citywide representatives and will meet regularly until the start of this upcoming School Year 2021-2022. We have added a few more parent reps (Stevens ELC and Lafayette ES) and updated our membership list here.

For the second meeting on Thursday, April 29, 2021, Principal Hunt shared the new Mighty Oaks as the mascot to honor the historic oak trees on campus and gathered feedback on potential logo options. The Military Road School Preservation Trust also shared details on the history of the building while the DCPS Facilities Team shared a current status of the building and what to expect in the coming months. Lastly, we reviewed the My School DC lottery applicant and matched students’ data for MRELC. Check out the presentation from the second meeting here. Questions? Email DCPS.planning@k12.dc.gov or MilitaryRoadELCenroll@k12.dc.gov.

Families are still welcome to apply to the Military Road Early Learning Center via a My School DC post-lottery application. Need help with your application? Contact the MSDC hotline at (202) 888-6336.

Foxhall and MacArthur Public Survey and Community Listening Session

DCPS is excited to share two additional opportunities for public feedback on the Foxhall and MacArthur school planning process.

  • Public Survey: The public survey on Foxhall and MacArthur is now open!  Please use the links below to access the survey in English or Spanish.  The survey will be open until May 19, 2021.
  • Community Listening Session: DCPS will be hosting a virtual Community Listening Session on Monday, May 17, 2021, from 5:30-7:30PM to gather additional feedback on the Foxhall and MacArthur planning.  Register at bit.ly/FoxhallMacArthurRSVP to attend this meeting or to provide testimony.  Depending on the number of individuals interested in testifying, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. For those members of the public who are not able to testify during the meeting, they are able to submit their testimony by email to dcps.planning@k12.dc.gov or by mail at 1200 First Street NE, Washington D.C. 20002.

For any questions, please send us an email at dcps.planning@k12.dc.gov.

Foxhall/MacArthur Community Engagement

The School Planning Team has coordinated with the Foxhall/MacArthur Community Working Group and select schools within the Wilson Feeder patter to discuss potential options for both the Foxhall and MacArthur sites. The purpose of the meetings are to share an informative overview of our current recommendation and to gather feedback prior to the release of a broader community-wide survey. Please find below a list of scheduled meetings and contact your school of choice if you would like to attend a session. We will also have engagement opportunities for DCPS’s Spanish-Speaking families. Information on that session is also linked below.

Meeting materials are available for public view and are located–here. School specific deck additions are uploaded weekly.
