Foxhall and MacArthur Decision Announcement

DCPS submitted the final recommendations from the Community Working Group (CWG) for the Foxhall and MacArthur schools in the summer of 2021. We are pleased to announce final decisions from city leadership regarding both buildings, informed by the CWG feedback and recommendations:

  • MacArthur will be a high school serving the Hardy Middle School feeder pattern, with a set of seats reserved via the Equitable Access program for students furthest from opportunity. (The Equitable Access program allows schools to reserve seats for students who meet OSSE’s “at-risk of academic failure” criteria, which includes students who receive SNAP/TANF, are experiencing homelessness, are part of the foster care system, or are overage for their grade.)
  • Foxhall will be an elementary school serving PK4-5th grade. This will require drawing a new boundary that re-assigns portions of the Key, Mann and Stoddert boundaries, and setting “phase-in” policies for affected schools.

The planned opening of Foxhall will be delayed by one year until at least SY25-26, given procurement and construction timelines. MacArthur is currently planned to open in SY23-24 (as announced in September 2021). We will continue to keep the community informed as there are additional updates.

The final document and supplemental materials are located here.  For questions regarding the Foxhall and MacArthur School Planning Community Working Group (CWG), please email our team at DCPS.Planning@k12.dc.gov.

Foxhall and MacArthur Status Update and Next Steps

DCPS submitted the final recommendations from the Community Working Group for the Foxhall and MacArthur schools over the summer.  DCPS and City leadership continue to weigh the recommendations and discuss all options, and no final decision has been made.

This continued deliberation will primarily impact the proposed SY22-23 MacArthur opening. MacArthur will now open no earlier than SY23-24. This adjustment will ensure that we have time for a robust engagement and planning process for a successful school opening, while providing significant advance notice to impacted families. Foxhall is currently planned to open in SY24-25. We will continue to keep the community informed as there are additional updates on the final decisions and opening timelines for either school.

The final document and supplemental materials are located here.

Foxhall & MacArthur Community Working Group Recommendations

On Friday, June 11, 2021, DCPS transmitted the final Foxhall and MacArthur Community Working Group Recommendations document on behalf of the members of the Foxhall and MacArthur Community Working Group (CWG).  The CWG was convened by DCPS to support planning for the Foxhall and MacArthur school sites. The CWG included parents, school leaders, and community leaders from the Wilson High School feeder pattern and held its first meeting in February 2021. The Recommendations document outlines the options for the site along with clearly articulated trade-offs, preferences, and considerations that the CWG and the broader community have engaged in.  This document is meant to inform DCPS and city leadership decisions on the final program scope for the Foxhall and MacArthur sites.  The final document and supplemental materials are located here.
