Fall Community Engagement & SIT begins!

With School Year 2019-2020 in full swing, the Stevens School Improvement Team (SIT) is back in session and had their first meeting of SY19-20 last week. The presentation materials are public and located on the DCPS Facilities modernization site here.

This fall, the Strategic School Planning (SSP) Team, in partnership with Early Childhood Education and Community and Engagement Teams, have been engaging Ward-based organizations, phone banking families, and connecting with schools in the Stevens neighborhood. We have previously connected and presented at the HeadStart Policy Council, My School DC Parent Advisory Council, W6PSPO.

Below are our upcoming October meetings where DCPS will provide an overview on the Stevens Early Learning Center and seek community feedback on remaining decisions:

Wednesday, October 16th: ANC 2A meeting at 7 PM, West End Library (Facilities Team presenting)
Saturday, October 19th: Ward 1 Ed Council meeting at 2 PM, Cleveland ES (SSP Team presenting)
Thursday, October 24th: Ward 8 EdCouncil meeting at 6 PM, Martha’s Table (SSP Team presenting)

Calling All Future Eagles: Eliot-Hine MS is Ready for You!

EdFest is next weekend and the Eagles of Eliot-Hine Middle School are ready for you! Did you know Eliot-Hine MS is a Flamboyan school and has a National Junior Honor Society? Come by to learn more Saturday, December 9th from 11 AM – 3 PM at Stadium Armory. Eliot-Hine staff and parents will be there sharing more about their International Baccalaureate courses, sports offerings, Radio Network run by students, and extracurriculars like Robotics and Junk Art Club. Take a photo at their table and tag @EliotHine!

2017 Eliot-Hine MS Open House Dates & Opportunities to Provide Input

We hope everyone had a restful winter break! To kick off second semester, we wanted to share photos highlighting events from last semester and opportunities for you to learn more about Eliot-Hine MS. It has been so exciting to see their relationship with feeder schools grow and witness Eliot-Hine MS embrace the International Baccalaureate framework! Come visit while the lottery is open to see classes in action and learn directly from Principal Vargas and her staff.

Eliot-Hine HS Fair & Pathway to an IB Diploma

Eliot-Hine is one of the two DCPS International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) schools. In the fall of 2015, the IB Organization authorized Eliot-Hine as an official IB MYP. Remaining committed to a vision of educational excellence, Eliot-Hine’s Middle Years Programme offers a curriculum for students in grades six through eight committed to promoting independent learning, critical thinking, and inquisitiveness. Their feeder high school, Eastern High School, is also an IB World School so students can continue their pathway to an IB Diploma.

Led and organized by Eliot-Hine, DCPS high schools gathered to showcase their programs at the December 1st high school fair. Prepared with questions to ask schools, students and families learned more about how to apply to schools via the My School DC lottery, extracurriculars, and all their high school options.

There will also be an Eliot-Hine MS table at EdFest on Saturday, December 10th. Stop by to learn more about the school, hear from the principal and current students/parents, and grab an Eliot-Hine lanyard!
